Hi, I’m Dr. Lisa, one of the chiropractors here at Corrective Care Chiropractic in Westford, Massachusetts. And children often get ear infections. And you might ask yourself why.
Eustachian Tubes and Drainage
Okay. First, the biggest reason is kids have flatter eustachian tubes. That’s the tube that connects the ear to the throat. Okay? In an adult, our eustachian tubes are more at an angle, so they can drain easier. It’s a lot harder to drain when they’re flat. Okay?
So a sucking motion really helps get that tube cleared consistently.
Checking the Top Bone of the Spine
The other thing we check in children when they come in with ear infections or chronic ear infections is this top bone of the spine that’s called the atlas. Okay. A lot of times, a subluxation in that top bone of the spine can cause ear infections.
